This April The Art of Beauty – Vancouver makeup artist and hairstylist company had pleasure making Janine’s bridal party even more beautiful for her wedding day at Banff Hot Springs Hotel.
We were waiting for it… For almost a year! And finally it is here….

- At the second I’m doing final lipstick touch up for one of models
The huge team was working really hard to setup gorgeous decorations. I was honestly speechless when I saw the decorated table for the photo shoot..
And here is what was printed as a result of hard work for more then 12 hours

This snake skin makeup of the beautiful face looks just amazing, doesn’t it.
They say that a girl starts planning her wedding around the time she is five years old. If that is true, then the average twenty five year old woman has probably had twenty odd years to dream about how she would like her wedding to be. And for the bride, one of the most important parts of the wedding day is how she looks.
These days, there are several ways to style a bride’s look. Some popular ones are the modern look, or the princess style look, or even the retro look. They are all quirky and fun, each in their own way. But there remains one style that has captured the hearts of brides in every part of this world. That is the vintage look. When done right, this famous style is elegant, classy, and breathtaking. Undoubtedly, this has to be achieved by an artist who is a master at the art.
Here is where Lyana Gibert, this talented and extremely creative Calgary makeup artist fits into the picture. Renowned for classy and breathtaking makeovers that can transform the most ordinary of faces into the extraordinary; this makeup artist has an impressive portfolio that can be accessed on the website.
Lyana Gibert is a professional freelance makeup artist and hairstylist. Her work is predominantly based in Calgary, Canada. However, she is a dream come true for brides who aren’t based in Calgary too, as she is open to extending her luxury service packages to clients on location.
Moving on to what she specializes in, this Calgary makeup artist is a magician when it comes to wielding the makeup brushes for a wedding. In particular, she works wonders with her vintage wedding style. So if you are a little girl who once dreamed of having a wedding that will take you back in time, to the places where life was slower and sweeter, and that dreams is still alive in your heart, you have got to try her vintage wedding makeup style. With elegance and simplicity, she manages to craft out the most beautiful techniques on the human skin. Her luxury makeup is truly a treat to the eyes. As for the vintage makeup that this Calgary artist concocts, you will have to see it to believe it. It is almost, as if the days gone by are recaptured on the face of the bride like a beautiful moment frozen in time.
She also specializes in hairstyles that go perfectly hand-in-hand with the vintage look she offers the face. So when you pick this Calgary makeup artist as the right person to handle your makeup, you will also be in for a surprise – she can work wonders with your hairstyle too. That’s two birds with stone. And oh! What a pretty stone it is. Well, so if you are a bride-to-be who yearns for the most stunning and perfect vintage look on the special day, this is where you belong.
You can access her impressive portfolio on her site, as mentioned. And also, it is necessary to give credit where due, for where would pretty photos be without the right accessories and the talented photographer?
Everyone is in love with the Sugar Skull makeup craze. But where did it all begin? What exactly is a Sugar Skull? And where can you go to get one done on your face PERFECTLY for Halloween here in Calgary?
Most of us know that Sugar Skulls are associated with the Mexican festival the Day of the Dead (Festival De Muertes) but few know what they represent or how they came to be in the new world.
Sugar art was brought to Mexico by Italian missionaries back in the 17th century. Sugar Skulls are actual sculptures of sugar in the shape of a skull. They come in different sizes, colours, and are adorned in glittered confectionery accoutrements. They are edible and sometimes are consumed, but that is not why they are in high demand the month of October, prior to the Festival of the Dead.
It is believed, that at midnight, October 31st, the gates to heaven and hell open and the souls of loved ones lost may reconcile with their families. More specifically, the first night (Nov 1st) the souls of children (Angelitas) are released, the second night ( Nov 2nd) adult souls are released. Small sugar skulls adorn the graves and ofrendas along with toys and candy, food and flowers for the young children spirits. For adults, larger sugar skulls, alcohol, food and flowers are placed on the graves and ofrendas (altars). The holiday is becoming rapidly adapted by North Americans, perhaps because we typically don’t have an occasion to honour the dead except for funerals.
The past couple years Sugar Skull makeup has become the most sought after design in the October months. If you’re anything like myself the chances you have to pull this look off alone are slim to none.
Where can you go to get an amazing Sugar Skull in time for your Halloween event here in the Calgary area? Local Calgary Makeup Artist Lyana Gibert will come to you. If you want to look picture perfect, a Sugar Skull is not something you want to attempt yourself. Please trust in the skilled hands of a professional and I assure you you’ll have photos and happy memories to last a lifetime.
Featured in the photos is the lovely Mycah who I have had the pleasure of walking several catwalks alongside. Here Lyana did a 3.5hr application of makeup, using a combination of airbrushing (to make the nice white base) and hand painted detail, and fixed 120 individual Swarovski crystals on Mycahs face. Anyone who has seen swarovski crystals knows they are so much more than just a stick on glitter. They are not plastic, they are actual gem stones. The face paint used is Kryolan(http://us.kryolan.com), for those of you who didnt know, it’s one of the top face paint products available.
By using the best, you can assure that you will look stunning on your big night out. Once everything is applied you have a beautiful glow, every photo taken will be perfect, and no matter how much you dance your face will stay in place. If you want to stand out from the crowd this Halloween, I suggest you schedule an appointment with Lyana.
For bookings for this Halloween Lyana is offering stunning makeup applications starting at only $200. You can have this exact look (Sugar Skull) for $350+ crystals. Keep in mind all the products used on you are top of the line, L’Occitane cream,(http://ca.loccitane.com), MAC (www.maccosmetics.ca), Makeup Forever (www.makeupforever.ca), etc. The crystals are from Swarovski (http://www.swarovski.com)
Whether you’re doing photos, an event, or both, this Haloween, I suggest you book with Lyana to ensure you look your very best.
