It is so great to see your work published in magazine. However it feels extremely good when it is printed on the front cover.

This month we got two major publications. Lyana Gibert’s  looks (makeup and hairstyle) got published in two magazines:

  1. Langara’s (Vancouver’s college) catalog  and
  2. Moments’ magazine – Calgary based bridal and wedding planner magazine.

Beauty Creation

It was an early day in September and an unadorned face walked into a studio ready for anything.

Vancouver makeup artist Lyana Gibert was waiting and prepping her materials for a creative concept that she had envisioned.   Her vision?  An explosion of gleaming glitter to decorate the bare model.

The creative process started with some simplistic and elegant makeup.  The kind of makeup that makes you look like you aren’t wearing makeup, but somehow your eyes seem brighter, your lips plumper and your skin clearer.

Sparkly look- Vancouver makeup artist

Lyana Gibert’s talent with makeup is incredible.  She is a transformative genius, with fresh creative ideas for each shoot.

So here we are, at the inventive part for the final step in the make up process.

Lyana Gibert got her model to lie on a sheet-covered floor and then gently proceeded to paint glue over the models face, neck and chest.   Once she was lightly covered and desirably sticky, Vancouver makeup artist Lyana sprinkled the sparkles all over the models face, neck and chest.  The result was a shimmering and glistening effect that illuminated and changed with light and movement.

Lighting this kind of creation was a little tricky as even the slightest angle, brightness and movement produced a change in appearance of the sparkle-coated model.  Direct light illuminated the sparkles to be a vibrant and shinning gold hue.  When the light wasn’t direct by hit from an angel the sparkles turned either a warm soft hue of pink, light red and orange or a cold, though still shiny, hue of green, teal or light blue.  The effect was a lustrous concoction of coloration.

The final product produced a glistening and vibrant multi toned rainbow portrait.  Calgary and Vancouver make up artist Lyana Gibert conceived and thencreated an illuminating piece of work that is timeless in it’s creativity and imaginativeness.

And so that was a wrap and as the day ended and the image was captured.  As everyone separated the sparkles fell silently, softly on the ground marking a flickering path where it’s host journeyed.  Nothing lasts forever, but as that image deteriorated a new one will be born.

Stayed tuned for another inventive image by Lyana, sure to dazzle like this one.

Modern and Traditional Fusion Inspired Shoot

Modern and Traditional Fusion Inspired Shoot

Beauty Bridal Canada Hairstyle Publication Publication style Wedding

One of our styled bridal photo shoots featuring fusion of western and traditional bridal makeup looks just got published in Calgary Bride Luxe magazine.

I often feel incredibly fortunate as a Canadian. Our county is a melting pot of cultures, traditions and identities, with people from all over the world bringing their heritage to our doorstep. Today’s Inspired Shoot from The Art of Beauty showcases a bride who embraces both her traditional culture and Western trends.

Many modern brides take pride, joy and pleasure in creating weddings that are a fusion of their heritage and modern Western wedding trends, with incredible fashions and meaningful traditions.

Here’s what Lyana Gibert from The Art of Beauty had to say about this shoot:

We took one model and created Korean traditional bridal makeup  for her with a little bit of face art design that uses patterns that are more western in nature (like a blend of west and east) and another look that is purely western in nature (classic white dress, some sparkling jewelleries and very natural makeup). The result of this editorial was exciting; the same model looked totally different. It was lots of fun for everybody participated.

Vancouver Halloween ideas – Sugar Skull

About a year ago we published post about history of Sugar skull look for Halloween.

This year I wanted to continue this subject from a little bit different angle. Everybody agree that Sugar skull makeup is very bright, cool and colourful look for Halloween. But why not to get inspiration from it for your wedding? I’ve got few clients this years who booked their wedding on October 31st and who wanted to use Halloween inspiration for their wedding day!

How cool would it be if whole bridal party (the bride, bridesmaids, the groom, best man and even mothers) would wear Sugar skull looks? Can you imagine what kind of photos would it be? What kind of memories will it keep?

I thought it is just great idea to make your wedding unique as shown at Calgary Bride publication.

That’s why I teamed up with amazing photographer Csaba Diglics and vintage store A Vintage Affair to do inspiration photo shoot for Calgary and Vancouver couples who had idea in mind of using Halloween makeup as inspiration for their wedding.

Sugar skull makeup is suitable not only for ladies but for men as well. Obviously it is going to be not as sparkly and much more minimalistic however it doesn’t mean it will look less interesting. Check out these pictures and decide for yourself.

Eastern bridal looks by The Art of Beauty

Here it is! Gorgeous pictures featuring eastern bridal looks created by Lyana Gibert of The Art of Beauty are now featured at Calgary Bride online magazine.

Few cultures have weddings as extravagant as the people of Pakistan do. Not only are their weddings carried out over 4 days with lavish feasts and parties, (including the now very trendy henna (mehndi) party) but we also see some of the most beautiful and vibrant fashion, as well as unique styling for hair and makeup.

Lyana Gibert, a talented hair and makeup artist and owner of local bridal business, The Art of Beauty, teamed up with a local Pakistani designer Bushra Zarrar, owner of LaRegalia Couture, and together they styled up two models to give us a glimpse into the beauty and style, and culture of Pakistani weddings.

Weddings traditionally follow Islamic traditions. However, some ceremonies have a slight Hindu influence. Some of the customs include: Dholki (sing and dance with bride), Mehndi (henna party), Baraat (procession to the brides home), Nikah (contract ceremony), Mun Dikhai (the unveiling of the face), Rukhsati (sending off), Walima (marriage banquet), Shaadi (wedding ceremony), and Shab-i-Zifaf (the wedding night). The bride typically wears purple, pink, or red lehenga, gharara, or shalwar kameez that are greatly adorned in beads and gems. However, many brides now wear other bright colours aside from the original traditional colours as well. It is customary for the bride to wear much heavy gold jewelry, usually with large stones, (as a model, I can assure you this jewellery is even heavier than it looks! These brides are amazing). It takes many hands to get one bride dressed and ready properly, the dupatta must be secured in a certain way, the lehenga must be the right fit, the right colour, the henna must be painted properly, the bride must look the picture of perfection for her husband to be, especially for a ceremony like “the unveiling of the face.” The models Cathy and Theresa were a joy to work with. Lyana styled each one to match the dress she was wearing. With this cultural style, contouring and intense eye makeup is a must, it is essential as a bride that you hire a professional for such skill. The photos were taken at Crossroads Furniture Gallery utilizing their stunning array of home décor and furnishings. They were taken by the talented and humble Csaba Diglics, an amazing local wedding photographer. There’s also a behind the scenes video taken by videographer Oleksandr Nadoloshko. Floral dresses for weddings are definitely on trend for 2015.  Bridesmaids in pretty pastel prints and bold blooms are popping up on wedding blogs left and right.  After the recent article by the Calgary Bridal Association, Tara decided to track down floral bridesmaid dresses that are available to ladies shopping here in Calgary.

The Good Ol’ Days

The Good Ol’ Days

art Beauty Calgary Canada Creative Hairstyle makeup artist style Vendors review

Remember the days when women “stayed at home,” and did all the cooking, cleaning, never had a job or career, just stayed at home and raised the children: Women were all expected to be typical Stepford Wives. These images were depicted in famous works by many artists, most notably Norman Rockwell.
The inspiration for this pinup shoot came from the satirical (humorous) spin put on these images, for example the ones featured here:

These inspired Lyana so much that she decided to collaborate with the best, locally, to recreate these images with her own added flare. Together with Csaba Diglics (photographer), A Vintage Affair (clothing), Just Cake Me (vintage cake) Oleksandr Nadoloshko (Videographer) and the stunning Summer Morgan of Sophia Models Int.(model), they recreated this funny, timeless beauty that every woman can relate to.

Lyana used her exceptional makeup and skill to transform Summer’s face into a porcelain perfect, image of a vintage house wife. Her hair was curled with a victory roll in the centre of her forehead… And from there the magic began.

As you can see, the images are absolutely pristine. This is the result of an amazing team working together, and naturally Csaba and Lyana’s amazing talents together.

Working with Csaba is such a pleasure. He’s well experienced in both the fashion and wedding industry, and his work speaks volumes about his talent. His pictures are truly breathtaking. His post production editing isn’t over exaggerated, it makes everyone look their absolute best (especially when teamed up with lyana’s perfectly styled hair and makeup). I have yet to see an image from Csaba that I don’t like, every single photo he takes is magical. (The ones he took of me are still some of my favourite). Not only is he professional but also very kind and has a sweet nature, he truly is a joy to work with. I highly recommend his talents.

Speaking of recommending talents, Lyana has put together a list of trusted professionals in the wedding industry available here: theartofbeauty.ca/calgary-wedding-vendors

And lastly behind the scenes Oleksandr caught some candid footage of how this magic actually takes place! Stay tuned for that!

I can’t express enough how in awe I am of this shoot. Lyana truly sees beauty in every aspect of the world and not only show cases it, but creates a masterpiece. Lyana truly is artist in every sense of the word. I look forward to the next inspirational beauty you have for us!
