Beauty Creation

It was an early day in September and an unadorned face walked into a studio ready for anything.

Vancouver makeup artist Lyana Gibert was waiting and prepping her materials for a creative concept that she had envisioned.   Her vision?  An explosion of gleaming glitter to decorate the bare model.

The creative process started with some simplistic and elegant makeup.  The kind of makeup that makes you look like you aren’t wearing makeup, but somehow your eyes seem brighter, your lips plumper and your skin clearer.

Lyana Gibert’s talent with makeup is incredible.  She is a transformative genius, with fresh creative ideas for each shoot.

So here we are, at the inventive part for the final step in the make up process.

Lyana Gibert got her model to lie on a sheet-covered floor and then gently proceeded to paint glue over the models face, neck and chest.   Once she was lightly covered and desirably sticky, Vancouver makeup artist Lyana sprinkled the sparkles all over the models face, neck and chest.  The result was a shimmering and glistening effect that illuminated and changed with light and movement.

Lighting this kind of creation was a little tricky as even the slightest angle, brightness and movement produced a change in appearance of the sparkle-coated model.  Direct light illuminated the sparkles to be a vibrant and shinning gold hue.  When the light wasn’t direct by hit from an angel the sparkles turned either a warm soft hue of pink, light red and orange or a cold, though still shiny, hue of green, teal or light blue.  The effect was a lustrous concoction of coloration.

The final product produced a glistening and vibrant multi toned rainbow portrait.  Calgary and Vancouver make up artist Lyana Gibert conceived and thencreated an illuminating piece of work that is timeless in it’s creativity and imaginativeness.

And so that was a wrap and as the day ended and the image was captured.  As everyone separated the sparkles fell silently, softly on the ground marking a flickering path where it’s host journeyed.  Nothing lasts forever, but as that image deteriorated a new one will be born.

Stayed tuned for another inventive image by Lyana, sure to dazzle like this one.

Here it is! Gorgeous pictures featuring eastern bridal looks created by Lyana Gibert of The Art of Beauty are now featured at Calgary Bride online magazine.

Few cultures have weddings as extravagant as the people of Pakistan do. Not only are their weddings carried out over 4 days with lavish feasts and parties, (including the now very trendy henna (mehndi) party) but we also see some of the most beautiful and vibrant fashion, as well as unique styling for hair and makeup.

Lyana Gibert, a talented hair and makeup artist and owner of local bridal business, The Art of Beauty, teamed up with a local Pakistani designer Bushra Zarrar, owner of LaRegalia Couture, and together they styled up two models to give us a glimpse into the beauty and style, and culture of Pakistani weddings.

Weddings traditionally follow Islamic traditions. However, some ceremonies have a slight Hindu influence. Some of the customs include: Dholki (sing and dance with bride), Mehndi (henna party), Baraat (procession to the brides home), Nikah (contract ceremony), Mun Dikhai (the unveiling of the face), Rukhsati (sending off), Walima (marriage banquet), Shaadi (wedding ceremony), and Shab-i-Zifaf (the wedding night). The bride typically wears purple, pink, or red lehenga, gharara, or shalwar kameez that are greatly adorned in beads and gems. However, many brides now wear other bright colours aside from the original traditional colours as well. It is customary for the bride to wear much heavy gold jewelry, usually with large stones, (as a model, I can assure you this jewellery is even heavier than it looks! These brides are amazing). It takes many hands to get one bride dressed and ready properly, the dupatta must be secured in a certain way, the lehenga must be the right fit, the right colour, the henna must be painted properly, the bride must look the picture of perfection for her husband to be, especially for a ceremony like “the unveiling of the face.” The models Cathy and Theresa were a joy to work with. Lyana styled each one to match the dress she was wearing. With this cultural style, contouring and intense eye makeup is a must, it is essential as a bride that you hire a professional for such skill. The photos were taken at Crossroads Furniture Gallery utilizing their stunning array of home décor and furnishings. They were taken by the talented and humble Csaba Diglics, an amazing local wedding photographer. There’s also a behind the scenes video taken by videographer Oleksandr Nadoloshko. FUTURE BRIDES!!!!

Is it almost your special day? And you want everything to be perfect right? The dress, the photos, the venue, the flowers, the cake. A lot of people forget to put trust into professionals for the actual styling of the bride. And this is where I can help you. The average wedding costs $ 10-100,000. These are typically stressful days for you beautiful ladies, so why not guarantee yourself no stress by going to see the best talent Calgary has to offer? Some of you may already know me as local model and writer, Carolynne Scoffield. I have teamed up with Lyana Gibert here at her site, The Art Of Beauty, to spread the word of her amazing skills to Calgary and area. In this case, specifically to upcoming Calgary brides. Lyana and myself  (I’ll be modelling) will be at Bridal Expo, this coming Sunday, September 14, 2014 to showcase her work. We are giving away some amazing prizes so be sure to come find us. For more information on Bridal Expo check out: http://bridalexpo.ca/2014/ So, you may wonder, Why am I recommending that you use Lyana instead of someone else? Lyana has years of experience in both hair styling and makeup artistry. On top of her experience in her home country of Russia, where she spent 5 years studying Visual Art and became a professional artist, she is also certified as a makeup artist and hairstylist by the Artists Within Makeup Academy (Calgary, AB).  Lyana brings a variety of skills to her work, a one of a kind flare to her style combined with her culture and unique vision will guarantee you will look stunning and are the centre of everyone’s attention. She insists on perfection and achieves nothing less. A wedding is the one day brides should feel and look their absolute best. To look your best it does cost a bit, but it’s not unaffordable, and the results are priceless. The makeup and styling done on you, I assure you, will not move throughout the day, you can be ready at 10am and still look the same at 10am the next morning.

Lyana ensures all makeup is sealed on the face and using nothing but the most highly recommended products (MAC,{http://www.maccosmetics.com/index.tmpl?LOCALE=en_CAindex.tmpl}  Makeup Forever {http://www.makeupforever.com/}, NARS {http://www.narscosmetics.com/}, L’Occitane  (http://ca.loccitane.com/) for skin care (these are amazing and extremely expensive) and for hair she uses Kevin Murphy {http://kevinmurphy.com.au/}, OSiS+ {http://www.schwarzkopf-professional.com/skp/com/en/home.html}, Matrix Pro{http://www.matrix.com/}, as well as some designer products from Russia. I went to Lyana’s for makeup, however, she usually goes to clients to do their makeup wherever they feel comfortable. She was very gentle yet fast and efficient. I had no stabbing hair pins, and my hair stayed still for over 9hrs. (I have incredibly thick, long hair, and It was swept into an updo, as seen below) We had the styling perfect for our “Great Gatsby” (or Downton Abbey) themed photo shoot, so we gathered our things and we headed to the photographer, Csaba Diglics studio for the photo shoot. I stopped on the way for a coffee and was greeted by several compliments from strangers on my makeup and hair! Once at the studio we got to work with Csaba. Csaba does BEAUTIFUL photos. The shots we got were priceless. He was wonderful to work with and we flew through the shoot with ease. Here’s a couple behind the scenes of Csaba and I:

Point is, someone can tell you “this person  can do your makeup and hair,” but do you know them? As a model I personally know most of these artists, and there are very few I would hold in such high esteem as Lyana. Her work is stunning, and so will you be if you use her services for your special day. It’s your One big day, come to Lyana and you will look stellar from morning to night and then some.
